Acer Partners FET on Smartphone Rollout in Taiwan
October 23, 2009
Taiwan-based PC vendor Acer has teamed up with Taiwanese mobile service provider FET (Far EasTone Telecommunications) to roll out two Windows Mobile 6.5-based Smartphones in Taiwan, according to an October 16 report by China Times of Taiwan. Currently sold through FET channels, Acer's two customized Smartphones are the entry-level beTouch E100 and the business user-oriented neoTouch. NeoTouch, in particular, is reportedly the first Qualcomm Snapdragon 1G MHz CPU-powered device available in the market. Seeking to establish its presence in the mobile phone market, Acer has forged similar alliances with CSL in Hong Kong, SFR and Bouygues in France, and Wind in Italy. Ace has set a target of shipping 400,000 to 500,000 phones by year-end 2009, while the shipment goal for 2010 is estimated at 1.5 million to two million units.
